This Riri grey/black lacquer bowl by Japanese woodworker Tomoaki Nakano is a beautiful vessel.

First this piece is hand turned on a lathe before being sanded and polished. The next stage is the application of lacquer that is applied to the exterior of the vessel. Tomoaki focuses on applying thin layers leading up to a final thick layer to give a beautiful smooth finish.

The black and grey exterior is very striking. Certainly one of a kind object that would make the perfect gift.
