Glassware
matsurica
Rie Furukawa focuses on crafting accessories and other glass objects at her studio in Tokyo. Her inspiration is the ever-changing landscape, especially the sky and the sea, that came about after a visit to the islands of the Seto Inland Sea in Japan.
Mimicking the vague glint of the sun hitting a shiny object, Furukawa uses mechanical polishing to create the tones that radiate. By stopping halfway during the polishing process she is able to create a soft cloudy-like appearance that's always unique.
As with any handcrafted object, these will get better with time. But matsurica's pieces have the added benefit of changing their appearance depending on the light that hits the surface. Exceptional craftsmanship and a beautiful aesthetic.
