A beautiful lacquer plate handmade by Japanese duo Kenichi and Minako Fujii. This wooden vessel has been hand-turned on the lathe by Husband Keichi before his wife Minkao applies the urushi coating. Titled 'Nuno', meaning cloth in Japanese, references the subtle texture on the surface.
Lacquer is a traditional coating that has been used in Japan and the Far East for thousands of years. The sap is collected from the urushi tree, which once harvested and matured over a number of years can provide protection to any wooden object.
Please note: These have subtle differences from plate to plate, they also feature raised bumps in certain areas from the lacquer method used.
