Japanese ceramic studio Nankei specialise in the production of these beautiful cups that can also be used for desserts. These are made from an iron rich clay body.

The clay is the reason Nankei are able to produce such a bowl without a glaze, naturally turning black during the firing and offering a smooth surface with tiny irregularities inside that mellow the taste of the tea and make it slightly less astringent.

This clay body does not absorb water and becomes more glossy with time. Depending on the drink or food used the clay body can stain. A multifunctional piece with a minimalist aesthetic.
