This wooden bowl has been hand turned on the lathe by master craftsman Akihiko Sugita, he then applies lacquer to the vessel in various layers to protect the surface.
This small red bowl has a fantastic red coloured finish which is produced in the layering process of the lacquer, up to 8 layers of lacquer are applied to generate this gloss. A stunning form that would look perfect on any shelf.
This particular bowl is finely crafted and is very light, the walls are smooth but it does feature some unique markings which show some of the under layers of the lacquer coming through and nuances in the wood itself. A real piece of art.
