Small Carved Cherry Dish

by Toru Sugimura

A small cherry dish handmade by Japanese woodworker Toru Sugimura. This small plate has a unique rustic charm thanks to the overall shape and the chisel marks scattered across the surface of the piece.

They are first made by taking a blank piece of wood and later chiseling out the form, shaping the piece as he works. Not only are Toru Sugimura's works functional they are also one of a kind, almost like functional sculptures that can be used on a daily basis.
