The Roku-sun black lacquer bowl by Japanese woodworker Tomoaki Nakano is a beautiful sculptural vessel thanks to its dramatic angled shape.
First this piece is hand turned on the lathe before being sanded and polished. The next stage is the application of lacquer applied to the exterior of the vessel. Tomoaki focuses on applying thin layers leading up to a final thick layer to give a beautiful smooth finish.
The shiny, black finish makes this object certainly one of a kind.
