Red Mini Salad Bowl

by Maiko Okuno

A beautiful red lacquer bowl made by Japanese craftsman Maiko Okuno at her studio Ishikawa Prefecture.

Bengara is a red earth pigment which can look darker from different angles, this is thanks to the use of iron oxide in the lacquer. What's beautiful about this bowl is that it creates its own shadows, blending in to the surroundings of your own home.

This piece has been hand turned on the lathe, once sanded it has a lacquer solution applied to protect the wood.
