This marumi bowl in red lacquer by Japanese woodworker Tomoaki Nakano is a beautiful vessel.
First it's hand turned on a lathe before being sanded and polished. The next stage is the application of lacquer that is applied to the exterior of the vessel. Tomoaki focuses on applying thin layers leading up to a final thick layer to give a beautiful smooth finish.
The red exterior pops out at you, possibly helped by the flowing shape of the vessel. Certainly one of a kind.
