This is a one of a kind plate that's been handmade by Japanese craftsman Hiroyuki Sugawara. Hiroyuki creates wooden tools for daily life, working out of his studio named 'greenlight' in Chichibu, Saitama Prefecture.
These are first cut to size and then the wood is warped creating a dish perfect for sushi and other small meals. A lacquer coating is then applied in various layers to protect the wood.
Up-close you can see the chisel marks where Hiroyuki has shaped and guided this piece of wood in to the perfect shape.
