This small dome box by Japanese lacquer craftsman Maiko Okuno is simply a vessel of beauty.

Mizumezakura, which is a type of wood from the birch tree in Japan, is a dome box which has been hand turned on the lathe and then precisely cut to shape with hand tools. Once finished and dried it is then treated with a lacquer solution to protect the wood. Up close you can see both the colour mixing with the texture of the wood, you can also open the object to store things inside.
