Half Lacquer Pasta Fork

by Atelier tree song

A beautiful lacquer pasta fork handcrafted by Japanese craftsman Taisuke Hirabayashi. Taisuke creates wooden cutlery in Tokyo, where he works out of his studio named Atelier tree song.

The form is first cut and then shaped completely by hand using a knife. Interestingly, the coating used is a dark brown lacquer that's been applied to just the bottom half of the fork. This protects the wood and highlights all the little markings where the maker has been at work. The wood used is cherry, the top half of the handle has been treated with natural oil.
