Rice bowls can be decorative and are often made out of china or porcelain, but these bowls were traditionally made to be used (hence the name, to eat rice from). This specific bowl has a fantastic hakeme glaze, a decoration technique in which a stiff brush is used to apply slip directly to the surface of a pot.

These are great for a portion of rice next to vegetables and meat, but could also be used for sweets and general everyday eating situations.
