Cherry Zabon

by Tomokazu Furui

Our first piece of small furniture in the shop is this handcrafted table by Japanese woodworker Tomokazu Furui. The zabon, za meaning 'sit' and bon meaning 'tray', is a sitting tray or low table that could be used to present food or sweets. This zen table handcrafted out of cherry would be perfect for the tea ceremony as it's close to the floor for use while sitting.

Tomokazu finishes the table off using various hand tools, much like he would any other vessels. You won't find a table with more charm and warmth than this.

Note: The cherry version is lower than the walnut table.
