The Hina Katakuchi bowl in red by Japanese woodworker Tomoaki Nakano is a beautiful sculptural vessel thanks to its dramatic spout.

First this piece is hand turned on the lathe before being sanded and polished. The next stage is the application of lacquer applied to the exterior of the vessel. Tomoaki focuses on applying thin layers leading up to a final thick layer to give a beautiful smooth finish.

The red interior and exterior is contrasted by the top edge that is slightly darker in colour. This object is certainly one of a kind.
