Keiichi Sakai

Japanese maker Keiichi Sakai is paving the way for a new generation of woodworkers in Japan. Born in Gamagori, a city not far from Nagoya, he started crafting functional objects from wood in 2014. Since then he has made significant strides from his workshop in the city of Kakamigahara in Gifu Prefecture.

Although on the surface Keiichi’s works follow the principles of many other makers in Japan, to make functional woodwork for daily use, but his main interest revolves around the use of high quality hardwoods such as walnut, cherry and chestnut so that these works are durable and stand the test of time.

  • Born in 1986 in Gamagori, Aichi Prefecture, Japan.
  • Currently producing functional tableware from his studio in Kakamigahara, Gifu Prefecture.
  • Keiichi's goal is to use hardwoods such as walnut, cherry and chestnut to make beautiful objects that showcase the marks of the maker.
