Kana Tozuka

Kana Tozuka is a potter based in Otaru, a city in Hokkaido, Japan. Her works are inspired by the image of a winter scene, alongside the old streets of her hometown Otaru. The white works represent a sprinkling of snow, and the black-bronze works are almost like antiques representing a shift in time. This depth in colour is created in the kiln at a high temperature, where the black glaze really glistens and glows. Apart from her distinct glaze combinations, Kana creates fantastic angular shapes, alongside those that are more flowing, complimenting the grainy surface texture of the pot.

Originally training at a ceramic studio in Okinawa, Kana set up her own studio in 2007 and has since pursued ceramics as a career. She’s now exhibiting across the whole of Japan, and we’re very proud to represent her work here internationally.
