Woodwork
Akihiko Sugita
Surrounded by the sea and mountains, Akihiko Sugita’s workshop is located in Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture. This is where he creates these beautiful wooden vessels that are hand finished with an urushi coating.
They are painted with lacquer and left to dry, this is repeated many times over, a final to coat is then added to finish and protect the previous layers. These works are so delicate in the making process that Akihiko has created a specific drying cupboard where these vessels can be free from dust and can adjust to the humidity slowly.
Akihiko is attracted to the fact that these objects can be long lasting pieces of design that can stand the test of time. Not only that, they can be used on a daily basis and become one with the user. We hope you like this small selection that we have on offer at OEN shop.
