White Glazed Tea Bowl
Handmade tea bowl by Swedish potter Stefan Andersson, intended for everyday use these bowls provide the perfect portion of cereal each morning. These are first thrown by hand on the wheel before being left to go leather hard and later trimmed to remove excess clay. Once Stefan is satisfied with the shape he glazes and fires to conclude. This particular white glaze is a blend of clay and ash, inspired by Ko glazes dating back more than a thousand years.
Like the other series of five that Stefan has created exclusively for the shop, each of these bowls has been fired in his own invention, a vegetable oil fuelled kiln. By recycling the waste material of a local restaurant Stefan's kiln is not just environmentally friendlier it also provides a similar aesthetic to that of a gas fired kiln.
The Ko style glaze merges with the clay in this type of firing and produces a finished bowl with look and texture of fresh clay. Unlike other glazes we've come across before this holds the quality of an object cut straight from the wheel, rather organic and delicate.
