Coffee Spoon in Brass
One of our limited Brass additions from maker Rieko Fujimoto is this coffee spoon.
It's been hand shaped by Rieko herself within a small studio in Neyagawa, Osaka.
She uses an array of specialist hand tools that enable her to hammer and pound each utensil to shape, leaving indentations that set this apart from its mass produced counterpart.
Like the Japanese concept of Wabi Sabi, this item celebrates the idea of imperfection with the brass material finding new patina and charcther as it ages.
Our favourite area of the spoon is actually on the back of the face where precise chisel marks present a mosaic like pattern that looks remarkable under daylight.
Both sculptural and functional.
Dimensions: 13cm in Length x 2cm in Width
1. Please wash and dry the item soon after using because the remaining moisture could cause corrosion or change in colour. Over time the piece will naturally patina and age.
2. Brass conducts heat extremely well, so please be careful when using to avoid getting burnt.
3. If verdigris appears on the item, polish with a nylon scrubbing brush. Soaking the item in vinegar also helps to remove it and get back in close to its original colour.
